The “Thoughts & Action” announcement was designed as a vibrant and engaging graphic for a Young Adults (YA) ministry event at a local church. The target demographic for this design was adults aged 18–35, and the goal was to create a fresh, youthful, and modern look that would resonate with both church members and the surrounding community. This event focused on worship, teaching, and fellowship, so the design needed to balance energy and warmth while remaining approachable and on-brand for a church setting.
The church team appreciated the lively yet clean approach, noting that it felt “fresh, bold, and on point” for their audience. For my portfolio, this design highlights my ability to combine strategic thinking with creative execution, delivering a graphic that is both aesthetically pleasing and purpose-driven.
From the outset, I knew the design needed to stand out from traditional church graphics. To communicate the theme of “Thoughts & Action,” I incorporated bold hand-drawn elements and abstract doodles, suggesting creative energy and movement of the mind. The layered brush strokes, scribbles, and colorful accents surrounding the speaker emphasize the dynamic interplay between thought and action.
The handwritten-style font for “Thoughts” paired with a solid, bold typeface for “Action” creates visual contrast and reflects the event’s core message of translating inward reflection into outward steps.
The image of the speaker, Stephanie Gomez, was placed prominently in the design to build connection and familiarity with potential attendees.
To create cohesion between the photograph and graphic elements, I applied subtle texture overlays and integrated abstract lines and shapes that interact with the subject, making her appear part of the overall composition rather than “pasted on.” The composition flows from the speaker’s portrait to the event title, leading the eye naturally down to the details.
